Yishun 928 is a poor version of Katong laksa. Not in Top 5 in Singapore IMO. Tried once and never bothered to patronise the stall again.

The only authentic laksa I have in mind is the old Sungei Road, now located at Kelantan Lane, many others I have tried, were more like curry noodles, not laksa

All these hawkers get their noodles from suppliers. There would not be much difference between stalls in regard to the quality of the noodles. Surprisingly, the only hawkers that knead their own dough and pull their noodles are those from northern China. But thats not very Singaporean😅

I 100% agree with your assessment - I think Yishun 928 is much too over-rated. I've been all the way there before and was sorely disappointed because it tasted rather average. The soup not power enough. The best is yet to come.

Use fresh coconut milk or find "kara" coconut milk from the supermarket. It's a famous indonesian brand that's also sold in malaysia. Not sure whether they sell it in sg. Coconut milk should be slightly salty, never sweet.

well would u like to do a review on Prawn noodles soup, there is stall at Broadway Coffeeshop at Blk 414 Yishun Ring Road, long queue always. Closed on MOnday. Aside from Prawn noodles, they also serve very delicious Lor Mee on weekdays (not weekends), ingredients like fried fish & braised pork eggs are all inclusive. Prawn noodles is superb. You need to try.

Despite the broth-capturing nature of bee hoon - I still prefer the thick rice noodles for laksa for the mouth-feel. Feels more balanced, makes laksa more enjoyable and less heavy? Won't get too soggy after 5 mins of waiting too

I am a food lover and I travel for food everywhere in Singapore. I am not going to gatekeep this place anymore but the best Laksa I have ever eaten in Singapore is at Bedok South 58 Market - Amy's Laksa. Try ordering their noodle with Thin Bee Hoon and it's super good. Only Bedok Locals know about that stall.

Georges at Eunos , and Janggut Laksa is the same recipe, but inbetween got some changes. People who blind taste test say Janggut laksa at queens way taste the most originial to the famous katong laksa they taste in their younger days.

Heard so much about Yishun laksa, and left very underwhelmed after trying. The fact that crab sticks are used is a let down totally discrediting the dish. Felt like me visiting some random friends and his mom randomly took out some ingredients from the freezer for a last minute meal.

Kopitiam Tanka at Malacca, super friendly owner and easily the best meal I had in malacca. Also if you find a stall that has it, try laksa with mee kia, you wont regret it 😉

Imitation crab meat is made from processed fish paste. Crab flavouring and food colouring are also added for taste and impact. Hawkers often add it to replace ingredients that cost more so that customers feel like they are getting at least something for what pay for.

Haha I have always felt the same about thick beehoon! I suppose that is why other places cut it up and let you have it with a spoon so at least you can have some soup with it :P
